Can Humans Become Angels?
Angels are unique beings created by God to carry out His plan and minister to followers of Christ. They are different from humans and were created as angels, with no indication of them being formerly human or anything else. Angels have no need for the redemption that Christ provides for humans.
What are Angels?
Angels are God's special agents, created to fulfill His purposes and serve believers in Christ. They are not humans who have transformed into angels, but distinct beings with their own existence. While they have a desire to understand the Gospel, salvation in Christ is not for them to experience because they were not created with a sin nature.
What Happens After Death?
When a believer in Christ dies, their spirit goes to be with Him. However, they do not become angels. In the biblical account of the Mount of Transfiguration, Elijah and Moses appeared as themselves, recognizable to those present. They had not transformed into angels but had been glorified.
The Resurrection of Believers
According to 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, believers in Christ who have died are asleep in Jesus. This means that their physical bodies are dead, but their spirits are alive. When Christ returns, He will bring with Him those who are asleep in Him, and their bodies will be raised and made new, similar to Christ's resurrected body. This resurrection will result in believers having bodies free from sin.
Recognition and Eternal Life
All believers in Christ will recognize one another and live with the Lord forever. We will serve Him throughout eternity, alongside the angels. It is important to understand that believers do not become angels after death but rather experience a glorious transformation that allows us to be in the presence of God.
Why This Matters
Understanding the distinction between humans and angels helps us appreciate God's unique plan for each of these creations. It reminds us of the hope we have as believers in Christ, knowing that we will be transformed and live with the Lord forever. It also emphasizes the significance of salvation, which is available only to humans and not to angels.
