The Value of Knowing God
In the Bible, knowledge is more than just being aware of something; it involves a deeper appreciation and relationship with someone. The knowledge of God is considered the most valuable knowledge a person can possess. However, simply acknowledging His existence is not enough; we must have a deep appreciation for Him and develop a personal relationship with Him.
Scripture tells us that knowledge is a gift from God. Proverbs 2:6 reminds us that the Lord gives wisdom that comes from His own mouth, which results in knowledge and understanding. James encourages us to ask for wisdom, and God promises to give it abundantly. It is God's desire for all people to know Him, appreciate Him, and have a relationship with Him, so He grants wisdom to those who seek Him sincerely.
To acquire this knowledge, we must have reverence for God. Proverbs 1:7 teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. This fear does not imply dread or terror but rather reverence, respect, and obedience towards God. When we revere Him and acknowledge His authority in our lives, He will grant us the gift of knowledge.
The Infinite Knowledge of God
God's knowledge is vast and infinite. Psalm 19:2 tells us that His creation displays His knowledge continually. We can see evidence of His knowledge in the intricacies of nature and the universe. Paul affirms this in Romans 1:19-20, stating that creation reveals God's eternal power and divine nature.
God's knowledge is not only infinite but also absolute. Romans 11:33 declares, "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out!" We can never fully comprehend the depth of God's wisdom and knowledge. When Jesus came to earth, He embodied this knowledge, as Colossians 2:2-3 tells us that all treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him.
In contrast, human knowledge is flawed and incomplete without God. The Bible warns us that knowledge without love is worthless (1 Corinthians 13:2). Human knowledge tends to make people proud and self-reliant. First Corinthians 8:1 reminds us that knowledge can puff up, but love builds up. Pursuing knowledge for its own sake, without seeking God, is foolishness, as Ecclesiastes 1:17-18 states. Moreover, worldly knowledge that opposes God's truth is false knowledge (1 Timothy 6:20-21).
Knowledge and Relationship
For Christians, knowledge implies a relationship with God. In Genesis 4:1, the word "know" is used to describe Adam's intimate union with Eve. This concept extends to spiritual relationships as well. Jesus referred to His saving relationship with His followers by saying, "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me" (John 10:14). The truth sets us free (John 8:32), and knowing Christ involves faith, following Him, and having a loving relationship with Him.
Increasing in the knowledge of God is part of Christian maturity. As we grow in our understanding of God's Word and develop a deeper relationship with Him, we become more rooted in our faith. Second Peter 3:18 encourages us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Understanding the value of Bible knowledge and its role in deepening our relationship with God is crucial for every Christian. It helps us avoid the pitfalls of worldly knowledge that opposes God and keeps us grounded in the truth.
