Bible Slander
The Bible speaks clearly about the sin of slander, which is making false verbal statements that damage someone's reputation. Slander is condemned in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and it is considered one of the sins that God hates. In fact, it is included in the Ten Commandments, where God commands us not to bear false witness against our neighbor.
Slander is a form of malicious lying, and since God is the author of truth, anything untrue goes against His nature. The Bible frequently condemns both slander and gossip together, as they involve spreading falsehoods about others. While gossip collects someone's secrets and passes them on, slander creates its own secrets and broadcasts them to cause harm.
As Christians, we are called to live according to a new nature in Christ. Slander has no place in our lives when we become new creatures in Him. We are instructed to rid ourselves of anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from our lips. Our words are to be dedicated to glorifying God, just as our bodies are.
When we engage in slander, we are choosing to step out of the path that God designed for us. It is an indicator that our hearts are not right with Him. Slander can stem from various sinful roots such as bitterness, unresolved hurt, unforgiveness, or jealousy. Therefore, before slandering someone, we should examine our own hearts and address any underlying issues.
God's solution for slander is love. When we truly love others, we do not slander them. Love wants the best for others and includes guarding their reputations as we do our own. Jesus taught us to love one another as He loves us. By focusing on obeying the Lord through love, we can resist the temptation to engage in slander.

Slander not only damages the reputation of the person being spoken about but also reflects poorly on the character of the one engaging in slander.
