In Titus 2:12–13, the apostle Paul writes, "The grace of God teaches us to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ." In 1 John 3:3, we are told that "All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure." The believer who eagerly awaits Christ's blessed return will strive for a life of purity through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. We will all stand before the Lord one day and give an account of how we lived for Him on earth (2 Corinthians 5:10).
The imminence of Jesus' return should motivate believers to live godly lives in an ungodly world. To be "looking" for His return means that we live each day with constant anticipation and expectancy, firmly convinced that Jesus could come at any moment. This hope becomes a transforming reality in our lives, resulting in God being glorified through us (1 Corinthians 10:31). The blessed hope brings us joy and strengthens us through the trials we face in this world. It should also prompt us to evaluate our thoughts, words, and actions.
