Born the Wrong Gender: Understanding Gender Identity

In our complex and fallen world, questions about gender identity have become increasingly difficult to answer. Some individuals claim to have been born as the wrong gender, feeling that their soul is trapped in the wrong body. This belief is supported by those advocating for a gender-neutral society. However, it is important to recognize that rejecting God's design in creation leads to a distorted understanding of gender.

According to the Bible, God created two genders, male and female: "Male and female He created them" (Genesis 1:27). The modern speculation about multiple genders or a gender "continuum" is not supported by biblical teachings. While individuals may identify as transgender or gender-fluid, it does not nullify God's intended design and purpose in creating them.

Children growing up in today's confused world are bombarded with messages that challenge their understanding of gender. Society tells them that their gender doesn't matter and that they can choose to be whoever they feel they are. This confusion is reinforced through various means such as gender-neutral days at school, the banning of gender-specific terms in classrooms, the promotion of unisex restrooms, and curricula that endorse homosexual marriage. As a result, it is not surprising that some individuals struggle with their sexual identity.

However, we must be cautious not to lead children astray. Jesus warned against causing little ones to stumble (Luke 17:1–2). It is important to recognize that an individual's perception of their childhood may be influenced by conditioning or a desire to be another gender. While one may wish to be another gender for various reasons, this desire does not change the reality of one's biological sex.

The Bible clearly states that God created male and female and pronounced His creation as "very good" (Genesis 1:27, 31). However, sin has corrupted God's perfect plan for humanity and has affected every aspect of creation. The effects of sin can manifest in various ways, including physical and mental anomalies. It is possible for a person to be born with a combination of male and female organs, but medical tests can determine one's true biological sex.

We must recognize that we are engaged in a spiritual battle for our souls. The world seeks to conform us to its mold, making us dissatisfied with how God made us. Satan attempts to deceive us and urges us to question God's plan. However, we can find victory through Christ's redemption. Through salvation, Jesus grants us forgiveness of sin, reverses the effects of our poor choices, and compensates for our brokenness.

Each of us faces different battles, including gender confusion. However, we must ask ourselves if Christ and His redemptive work are sufficient for our struggles. Jesus claims to be sufficient for any battle we face, and He desires to sanctify us through His Word of truth (John 17:17).

As children of God, we should learn to be content in this life (Philippians 4:11; 2 Corinthians 12:10). We all have limitations physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. However, through Christ, these limitations do not hinder God's plan for us to honor and serve Him. We should not be afraid because our Father has been pleased to give us the kingdom (Luke 12:32).

If someone feels they were born as the wrong gender, the answer does not lie in gender-reassignment surgery or other worldly methods. These are simply ways of acquiescing to the devil's lies. Love rejoices with the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6), and God does not make mistakes. The one who feels they were born in the wrong body needs to experience the transformative power of Christ. By participating in the divine nature, we escape the corruption caused by evil desires (2 Peter 1:4).
